A Plan Deferred...

I had great plans for 2020. This was the year I decided to "give up" my first love of only running to focus on becoming a triathlete. Earlier this year, I'd researched and decided on a few sprint triathlons and duathlons I would register for. I was eager and excited. Then, the entire world was hit with something no one could have imagined; Covid-19. Social distancing became the norm. Scheduled trips were cancelled (goodbye Portugal). Daycares, schools, and small businesses closed down. Organized race events were cancelled or delayed.
In the beginning, I still had the drive/motivation to keep training even though it felt like the world was shutting down. However, the biggest barrier to me (not knowing how to swim) becoming a triathlete continued to be placed on hold because the gym also closed and I didn't have access to a pool or a swim coach. Bummer, right? But don't get me wrong. I am NOT complaining about how the Government/local state officials decided to protect us by enforcing a stay-at-home order. In fact, I am thankful. I work in Healthcare with those most vulnerable/high risk for infection and death. I appreciate ALL efforts enforced by my local state officials.
Training for triathlon events fell to the back burner the longer the stay-at-home orders were in effect and the more I became drained from continuing to work, outside the house, during a pandemic. To be completely honest, drinking a glass of wine as soon as I got in my house became my norm. I didn't want to do anything but relax and go to bed. I quickly become mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausted. The week my triathlon training plan called for a "recovery week", is the same week I decided to slow down on my training. Instead of following a regimented plan of running and biking, I decided to abort "training" and focus on moving my body daily. I felt like it was all I could do. I decided to include my kids and husband on my new adventures. After all, we all needed the beauty and calm of nature to help us live in the covid chaos around us. I soon learned my kids do not have an appreciation for nature walks as much as I do but they enjoyed our time spent together. I especially enjoyed the effect outside had on them #helloextendednaps.
So although I am not following a training plan at this time, I am still moving my body. My triathlons plans are on hold but my desire to become a triathlete has not died. I will become a multi sport athlete, eventually. In the meantime, I will continue to enjoy what brings me joy. Moving and spending time in nature. :-) Below you will find a few of my most recent pics. Press the arrow to slide through the pictures. Enjoy.
