Is anything linear?

It's been roughly two years now that I proclaimed to the masses that I would become a triathlete. Almost immediately after I confessed my plan, the world shut down due to the pandemic. Pools closed down and races were cancelled. I was met with the reality that my plans to learn how to swim (and therefore becoming a triathlete) would come to a pause. That was summer 2020.
November 2020, my husband and I were actively planning to become pregnant, so again, my triathlete plans were put on hold. We learned we were pregnant April 2021 but unfortunately, that journey ended with a miscarriage. In order to help me cope and manage the grief of my loss, as soon as I could, I started training for a 50k. Logical, right? The October 2021 50k was a success. It was just what I wanted/needed to feel good again. Immediately, I started planning my other races and events for 2022. I registered for my very first sprint triathlon and was excited. Finally, becoming a triathlete was going to happen in 2022. The event is scheduled for July 2022 in Williamsburg, VA and I thought it would be the most perfect initial race for me and gave me plenty of time to train/learn how to swim. I also registered for a Duathlon that is scheduled to take place in Columbia, MD, April 2022. My plans were made and all there was left for me to do is start training. Or so I thought.
Enters my next bump. Literal bump that is.

We are having a baby!!! This picture was taken of me at 13 weeks pregnant. I know. I know. I'm showing really good to only be 13 weeks. :-) But let's not focus on that. lol
The baby has an official due date of Sept 10, 2022 but my doctors are not going to let me go past 39 weeks since I'll need a c-section (prior to live births are c-sections).
So where does this leave me with my registered duathlon and triathlons for the year? To be honest, I'm sorta in another tight spot. I"ll be 19 weeks preggers on the date of my duathlon (run 2 miles, bike 10 miles and run another 2 miles) and a whopping 31 weeks pregnant the date of my Williamsburg triathlon (swim 0.5 miles in OPEN water, bike 13.1 miles and run 3.1miles). The Williamsburg race is very LIKELY #notgonnahappen. Just being honest. lol However, I'm still debating the April Duathlon especially since there is not a time limit and I can take my precious time (which I will need). The run portion won't be a problem, but that 10miles on a bike sounds intimidating now and #boring.
Aside from the duathlon and sprint TRI, I've registered for a few other events to keep me active this pregnancy.
8k-March 2022
Duathlon -April 2022
10k-Apirl 2022
5k-May 2022
Super sprint TRI-June 2022 ***Registering for this event (AFTER I knew I was pregnant) was my attempt to still complete a TRI this year since I'll only be 28 weeks (ONLY 28 weeks? haha) at the time of the event, it takes place in a pool vs open water and the distance is shorter (200 yards swim, 5 mile bike, 1.75 mile run). However, we shall see what happens.
Sprint TRI-July 2022-we've already established this #isnotgoingtohappen
Preparing for these events while pregnant has come with their own challenges. For one, morning sickness (aka ALL day sickness) wiped me out beginning week 6 through um now. lol #ikid No, the nausea and vomiting has gotten more manageable since my doctor put me on zofran, vitamin 6 and unisom but I suffered terribly before I agreed to be put on meds. Besides morning sickness, trying to work out PERIOD with a growing belly is hard. Not to mention, but I'm going to mention it anyway, I'm no young PYT (#hello40). My body can't do what it used to so I do what I can. My pace is slower and my intensity is lower, but I try my best to keep moving. I'm excited to see how long in this pregnancy I can remain active and how many of my scheduled events I'll complete. I'll snap photos along the way and update the blog when I can.
Until next time...
