VA Beach Shamrock 8k quick recap & what's next...

I love a good organized race and the 50th anniversary of the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon weekend did not disappoint. Three years prior, I ran my very first marathon #26.2miles but this year was a little different. This year, I had an in-house (in utero) run buddy and my sister running along side me as I finished my first 8k. It was the most perfect running conditions and the course was flat and fast #everythingIneeded. Both my sister and I finished the race in 1:00:07; a pace of 12:06 min/mi. Although this is not my usual run pace, I feel great about my results. At 15 weeks pregnant, I am happy to still be able to run. I felt fairly good afterwards as well. No soreness or pain, but I did find myself to be #supertired that evening and the next day. All is well now as I write this post three days after the run. Kuddos to the race organizations for such an awesome event. The expo was also great.

What's next

I've been going back and forth on whether I will participate in the Duathlon I registered for (prior to becoming pregnant), but I've finally decided on deferring my entry until next year. This decision comes on the heel of remembering I had completed my own #brickworkout early Dec 2021. It reminded me of how much biking 10 miles followed by running 3.1 miles was on my body and how wobbly my legs felt after getting off my bike. Having wobbly legs at 20 weeks pregnant and trying to run is not the situation I want to volunteer to put myself in so again, deferral it is. However, I will move forward on running in the Richmond Ukrop 10k late April 2022. I've ran this race at least two other times and I love it. The crowd support is unlike anything I've ever experienced in a race and I am looking forward to it. Hopefully, the weather will be just as #perfect as it was last weekend in VA beach.

Until next time...
