What are you doing to me?

Saturday, April 25, 2020 goes down in history as my first ever duathlon. It could also be known as the first day I did a #brickworkout. In the triathlon world this means doing at least two of the three forms of exercise (swim, bike, run) back to back in a single workout session (aka duathlon).
Before I made history today (lol) my day started off per usual- with a delicious #homemade juice that was perfect for supporting my immune system (see pics below). It was light and refreshing. I did wash and peel the beet, oranges, lemon (lemon not pictured) and grapefruit but left the skin on the carrots and ginger. You know, for extra fiber. Isn't it pretty? And I can guarantee you it was #good. I also had potatoes and onions that my hubby made (not pictured but equally as good).

Shortly after breakfast, my kids and I went for a 2.8 mile neighborhood walk. This led to my youngest son napping for an additional 3.5 hours once we returned home #momwin. Then, the time came for my solo adventure: 0.5 mile run followed by a 7 mile bike ride and then a 1.5 mile run. I didn't think this would be challenging at all. After all, I am a runner and how hard is it to ride a bike? lol Boy, was I wrong!! Okay, the first 0.5 mile run was easy and didn't challenge me much but then came the bike ride. I rode on a different route today, trying to avoid hills, but I ended up riding more hills than anticipated. Overall, the bike ride was good since I'm beginning to adjust to sitting on a narrow seat #ouch and I'm learning how to use my gears to shift. BUT, I still have a way to go before I feel 100% comfortable with my abilities on the bike.
Now, the 1.5 mile run after the bike? Well, let's just say the first 0.5 mile of that run had me feeling like my legs were made of jello instead of bone. I felt wobbly but also felt like my legs were made of bricks at the same time. I thought to myself, "how in the WORLD am I going to do a sprint or olympic triathlon when I'm struggling to get through my makeshift, ultra short duathlon?" I gained my senses quickly and realized this is my first brick session and I haven't officially started training (which I am starting on Monday btw). I understand this is a process and with consistency and dedication, I will get better. Shortly after I finished the workout, I felt great. I had just done something I've NEVER done before. The heavy feeling in my legs quickly subsided and I was reminded, I can do great things.
I am so excited about this journey. As I mentioned earlier in the post, I will start an actual training program on Monday, April 27. Lucky me, I found this free, that right, FREE Beginner's Triathlete Program. I will have a customized workout plan just for me and the support of a coach and other beginner #triathletewannabes . Although my body was asking me WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO ME today during my makeshift duathlon workout session, my mind was telling me to keep going. Triathlon victory is sure to be mine. :-)
Until next time,
Live outside of the box :-)
